- The gadaidhe dubh was one of the biggest thieves that ever lived, but what he used steal from the rich he used to divide with the poor. He was one night passing through a big river with a herd of stolen cattle. He had a stick in his hand. It was in the dead of the night and he saw a man standing in the middle of the river. He asked the man in the river in Irish. A bhfuil tú í bhfad anso? "Táim le fada," ar seiseann.
A mbeidh tú i bhfad eile ann?
Ó! beidh mé ann go bhfásaidh féir glas ar mo bhata.
Ó! Dia liom arsa an Gadaidhe and he jumped down in to the river near the other man and in the morning there was grass growing out through his stick. The Gadaidhe went away after that and he carried on his old figario again.
