  1. There were many customs connected with May Day. People believed it to most unlucky to stir the clay on this day. Even yet in this neighbourhood it is an idle day for the farmers as far as tilling the land is concerned.
    A May bush is still erected by the children in front of the door. This is generally a white thorn bush which is covered over with bunches of flowers, chiefly, primroses, which are in full bloom at that time.
