  1. In the townsland of Cill na Manach in the parish of Drum about three miles from Athlone, there are the remains of an ancient monastery from the district gets its name. An old road can be traced connecting this place with the adjoining district still known as Monksland, which was also owned by the monks.
    Those monks were probably a branch of the Cistercian order belonging to the old Abbey of St Peter's founded in 1214
