  1. A young man and his mother once lived together in a house. This man was a great gambler and always attended every card - house, dance or anything like this. He never cared what time he reached his home. This November night he was on his way home later than any night. He came to a field which was a very lonely place. He was trotting along 'fare and asy' 'thinkin' away to himself and praying for all know. But anyway just at a bend of the boreen he heard steps as if a crowd of people were walking. He stood with great 'fare' in his heart. He waited until he could make out what was coming. What do you think it was but a funeral. He said to himself "Bedad me ould mother always told me never to let a funeral pass until I'd give a hand". Good enough he said hed see who was
