- The Potato Crop.
Potatoes are grown every year in our farm. We sow an acre and a half. Some years we sow two acres.
The farmers and their men prepares the ground. The ground is not manured in any way before turned up. We sow most of the potatoes in drills, and we sow some in ridges.
The drills are made with a plough that has a double mould-board. The ridges are made with a swing or wheel plough. Wooden ploughs were used in my grandfather's time. Nobody uses wooden ploughs in this county now. The spades long ago were made locally. Now-a-days they are brought in a shop. This is the kind of a spade we use.
