  1. Local Fairs.
Our local fairs are held in Athlone, Roscommon and Knockcroghery. Some years ago, it was customary on the eve of the fair, for buyers to come and buy all stock. That is not done now. There is a fair held at Knockcroghery for two days. It is known as "The Old Fair". That was the only fair in the year up to a few years ago. Now we have four or five every year.
Fairs are usually held on the streets although there are fair greens. Tolls are still paid in Athlone and Kockcroghery but not in Roscommon.
