In olden days the football matches were not like the matches at the present day.
There was a football match in Culleen in Mac Dermotts field. The teams that played at this match were Culleen and the Valley, and there were fourteen men on each side. During the match a man named James Mac Gloughlin broke his arm. Some of the footballers were dressed in green and others were dressed in black and white. Culleen won and the ball was very often kicked from one townland to another. The ball that was used is the same as the ball used at the present day. Goal-posts were used and if they had no goal-posts they used to have two large stones.(continues on next page)- Informant
