  1. Shrovetide
Shrovetide is the time of year when most marriages take place in this locality.
It is remarked that Saturday is an unluvky day for a marriage to take place.
May is supposed to be an unlucky month for a marriages to take place.
It is believed that Monday and Tuesday are both unlucky days on which to get married.
Money is usually given as a fortu to the bride when getting married, and sometimes livestock is given along with the money. Again, livestock only is given as a dowry.
It is usual for a wedding-feast to be held in the house of the bride.
A number of young men dressed in straw - "straw-boys" - come to the wedding feast at night.
