  1. There was an old man who lived in Tullaghan by the name of John Casey and he was over 90 at the time. He was telling my father that when he was young he used to walk five miles in the dark of the morning to dig conacre spuds and all he would have for his breakfast was reheated spuds and a mug of milk. He would hardly have light to see his work when he would get there.
    He would work until dark night and would have six score of a ridge dug before the day. My father asked him how did he get his dinner. "Be me sowkins I'd bring a grain of salt with me and when I'd feel myself getting hungry I'd light a fire and roast a cast." "What is a cast?" my father enquired.
