    1869 was the date of the year
    When the Waterloo sportsmen
    And more did appear
    To win the great prize and to bear them away
    From the champion of Ireland
    Our Master McGrath.
    II
    On the 12th of November, a day of renown
    Magrath and his keepers, they left Lurgan town
    A gale on the channel, it soon drove them o'er
    And on the 13th they landed on Fair England's shore.

    When they arrived in big London Town
    All the great English sportsmen were gathered around
    One of the gentlemen laughed "Ha, ha, ha, ha"
    "Is that the great dog you call Master McGrath?
    IV
    Lord Lurgan stepped forward and he said
    "Is there any amongst you has money to spend?
    For your great English greyhound I don't care one straw
    Here is five thousand to one on Master McGrath.

    The dog he looked up and he wagged his big tail
    Informing his Lordship "I know what you mean
    "For your great English grey hound I don't care a straw
