  1. Long ago the monks from the Quaker Island used to meet the monks from Roscommon to pray.
They came across the Shannon on flag stones They used to pray where St Dermots well is now. One day St Dermot was praying and he got sleepy. He spied a little stream of water and he washed his eyes in it and just there a spring well sprung up. He said "This water will be good for the eyes" and it is believed that it is a good cure for sore eyes. People who have sore eyes come there and say certain prayers and wash their eyes in the water.
