    There are many songs sung in the district at the threshigs and weddings.

    There are many songs sung in the district at threshings and weddings. "Maryanne" is an old favourite. It is sung with the air of "the Star of Munster". The following are a few verses of it :-
    "Wishe, Maryanne, My honey,
    Sure 'tis not your land nor money,
    But your beauty bright that won me an' set my heart aflame,
    'Tis your eyes that work the charm,
    An' that cause me such alarm,
    I'm afraid they'll do me harm but I love you just the same.
    . . . . .
    With a load o' trouble lately.
    In my mind I suffer greatly,
    'An I'm down and out completely an' a heartbroken young man.
