    the smith. The smith cuts the iron into four pieces, and reddens them. When they are red he takes out one piece and forms it into a shoe. He fits it on the horse's hoof. Then he makes holes for the nails, and nails it on the horse's hoof. When he has the shoes on, he rasps the tops of the nails.
    Long ago not only did the smith make shoes, but nails also, but now the nails are made in factories. The smith charges four or five shillings for shoeing a horse. Of all tradesman the smith is one of the best.
