    Thána id láthair a chéardaidhe breágh galánta.

    Tadg Ciarruigheach (McCarthy) who lived in Shinnagh, Ballineen, Co Cork about 70 years ago, and who married Mary Donovan was the author of the following two poems, one addressed to a local shoemaker, and the other in praise of Shinagh.

    Go bhfuil aiteann na cheanaibh ar an "Dromfionn" seo láin liom
    Agus mise gá chárdadh le'm cosaibh
    Beannacht Rí na nGras leat ná cuir mé ar cáirde
    Mar caitheas go braghdaibh na stoca
    I dteannta bheith páirteach an fhaid a mhairfead go bráth leat
    Geobhair airgid bán uaim id dhorn.
    Dairigheas a luaidhchint gur buachaill leat
    Is ná leigfeá sa chuairt duine in aistir
