  1. During the Autumn I spend some time picking blackberries, wild strawberries, whortleberries, gooseberries, apples and currants. I make jam of the former. I also pick wild flowers such as the woodbine, bluebells, primroses, daisies, and buttercups. Sometimes in Spring I content myself with searching for birds' nests and if I am lucky enough to to find one, I visit it once or twice daily until the little birds fly off. At every visit I pay I put a piece of bread at the entrance to the nest, and there is no trace of this on the next occasion. By night everybody likes to read a story book. Some are omniverous readers.
