  1. Amhrán Eile

When first in this country I came as a stranger

When first in this country I came as a stranger
I placed my affections on a maid that was fair
She being young and tender her waist it was slender.
Kind nature had placed her to my over throw.
    2.
On the banks of a river 'tis there I beheld her.
She appeared to me like Juno or a Grecian queen.
Her eyes shone like diamonds, her face brightly gleaming
Her cheeks blooming roses or blood upon snow.
    3.
It was her cruel parents that first caused my variance.
Because they were rich and above my degree.
I'll do my endeavours my darling to gain her.
Although she was born of a richly family.
