  1. There is a Mass Rock at the foot of the highest point in Gurrane hill. The altar is made up of big stones. In the Penal times it was a Franciscan disguised as a beggar that used to say Mass there. He was one of the Mac Carthy Sowney clan, and is buried in Caheragh.
    There is a grassy plot not far from the Mass Rock which is called "Clasheen na Cormac. It is the site of battle between those who lived in Kilcoe castle and the O Donovans who lived in Castledonovan.
