  1. Bread was made from wheat and barley in olden times. The flour was made locally. Querns were used long ago, but there are only a few to be seen now.
    Stampie, Oaten-meal bread, yellow-meal bread, oneway bread, and potatoe-cakes were made.
    Stampie is made in the following manner :- First the potatoes are washed, and peeled. Then they are grated with a grater, or
