  1. Long ago people did not begin to wear shoes until they were fourteen of fifteen years of age, and sometimes until they were twenty. A travelling man by the name of Driscoll never wore shoes, and a Salter man from Lether hardly ever wore shoes, and used to cut furze barefooted.
    Children go barefoot in summer at present, and some go all the year round. The water used for washing the feet is not thrown out that night. It is
