time and that himself and six others started to dig the potatoes, when the time came for them to be dug. They had a good lot dug for dinner-time, he said, more than the people would dig now-a-days, and they went over to the ditch for their dinner.
While they were over, they suddenly saw six women wearing hood-cloaks coming out of the fort. They came and started picking the potatoes into their aprons. They remained there picking for about ten minutes and any of the work-men did not go near them, because something told them that they were the "Daoine Maithe" While they were picking the potatoes they did not even look at them, but when they were finished, they went back into the fort again.
Then the men went over to the place where the strange thing happened thinking that all the potatoes were gone, but to there great surprise there was not a single potato missing.
