  1. Fairs
Fairs are generally held in the town. Buyers come from Dublin, Longford, Galway, and Sligo, to Roscommon, to buy cattle, sheep, pigs, and horses.
Sometimes buyers come out to the country to buy cattle, sheeps. There are a few fairs held in Fuerty. Fuerty is situated about three miles from Roscommon Town.
Buying and selling of animals is never carried on at a cross-road or near a town.
There is a fair green in Roscommon, but the people objected to bringing their animals to this place as its not high enough.
People pay nothing for having the fairs held in the street. They pay toll in Strokestown.
When animals are sold it is the custom to give luck-money. The animals are marked with saddle on the back.
