    Tops
A round piece of ash is got for a top. It is peeled and rings cut round to ornament it if used for whipping. A spinning top in which twine is used has a large number of rings and the top tapers more to a point. In the point a nail or spike is driven on which the top spins.
The whip is made from branches of an ash tree.
