  2. Potato crop is grown extensively in our farm. About two acres of land are sown under this crop each year. My father usually prepares the ground. Before the soil is turned up a good manure is applied to the ground. The potatoes are sown usually in ridges, but they are often also sown in drills. Ridges are made by a plough. Six scribes of rich brown earth are turned up and each scribe is flatened out well by aid of a spade, thus a ridge is formed. Wooden ploughs were the only ploughs used long ago. Spades are not made locally but are to be found in an Iron-mongers shop.
