- Local Marriages.
In olden time and even yet people get married during Shrove and Easter. They say it is unlucky to marry during May or Lent or to get married in green clothes. First the match is made and the man goes to the girls' house and talks the matter over with her parents. Then they arrange the marriage for a certain day.
That morning the man goes to the house on horseback and brings the girl to the priest to get married. When they come home they eat their breakfast and the hold a wedding all that day and night During the night straw-boys visit the house. They are let in and they ask the bride to dance. Then the get drink and go out again.- Collector
