Carey sailed from Dublin
In the August of '83
And on his voyage to Capetown,
He was made known to me;
When I found out he was Carey, boys,
We had angry words and blows:
The villian thought he'd take my life,
On board of the Melrose.

When I stood up in my own defence
To fight before I'd die
A pocket pistol I drew forth
And at him I did let fly.
