    But no twas Mary Ann.
    The judge gave his decision,
    The Kirkwood won the race,
    The stakes were handed over,
    To the Justice of the Peace.

    But the Kilmore boys were Irishmen
    And proud I am to say,
    They made the Red-Coats tremble,
    All on the races day.
    They gathered round O Beirnes mare,
    And solemnly they swore.
    That she would in future days
    Bring laurels to Kilmore.

    And so she did from Mohill town,
    When she showed her shoneen clan.
    That if the stakes were £5,000,
    They'd be won by Mary Ann.
    And when the race was over,
    The jockey he came down.
    They took him on there shoulders
    And him through the town.
