- The people of this locality have great belief in the magpie. They consider it a terrible bad sign if setting out on a journey the meet one magpie. They are very happy and contented if they meet two. There is a local rhyme which a great deal of the people have great faith in. Here it is. The figures refer to seeing magpies. One mag and a great number of crows were the sign of death.
One for sorrow,
Tow for joy,
Three for a marriage,
Four for a boy,
Five for silver,
Six for gold,
and Seven for a secret,
That can never be told.- Collector
