Long ago people chiefly used our home-made dyes.
1. Indigo dye which was blue in colour.
2. Elder -berry dye which was also blue in colour.
(The elder - berry was got on the bourtree)
3. Logwood dye which was brown in colour.
4. Logwood and copperas dye which was bronze coloured.
To make indigo dye, a lump of indigo was cut into this slices. These slices was put into a large pot containing enough water to dissolve the indigo.
