    youngest girl or boy knelt on the threshold bearing the green, glossy "burthen", knocked thrice on the door, and cried aloud in Irish "Down on your knees and humble yourselves and let Brigid in". Those inside answered Brigid is welcome" and the rushes were carried in and laid on the kitchen table. Each member of the family made a share of the crosses and put them aside to be blessed on All Saint's Day.
    On the last night of Shrove - tide it is the custom to make pancakes.
    The wonderful feast of Easter is celebrated by young and old. On Easter Sunday it is the custom in Ireland to eat more eggs than on any other day ion the year.
    A month before Easter we celebrate the feast of the great Apostle of Ireland. On this day the people wear a piece of shamrock because it was with the shamrock St Patrick taught the mystery of the Blessed Trinity to the people of Ireland.
