it was necessary to have resort to some other superstitious practises to have the supply of butter brought back This was done by preparing as usual for churning. A laurel-branch was tied around the churn and another branch attached to the lintel of the door. By some means or other, the woman responsible for taking away the butter was present in the house while churning was in progress. Windows and doors were also made air tight. And when everyone had taken a turn at the dash and repeated some prayers, their labour was repaid by seeing the butter appear on the handle of the dash.
