    baked before the fire.
    Meat was very seldom eaten except at Christmas when half a pigs head and a dish of cabbage were for dinner and this was counted a great feast.
    On Easter Sunday the people always ate a number of eggs. This custom still exists.
    There are a number of pancakes made for Shrove Tuesday. There are also boxty and potato cake made for Hallow Eve.
    Tea was first used in this district about eighty or ninety years ago. At first it was seldom used except at Christmas. And if there was any left over after Christmas it was left in a place of safety for the following Christmas.
    Before cups were known there were wooden mugs used called methers or noggins.
