  1. In almost every part of Ireland certain articles are kept in houses and places in certain positions in the houses in honour of some saint or to commemorate some feast-day.
    For instance, the "girdle" of St. Brigid is made of rushes and two bits of sticks. It is still made in some homes. In each townland a chosen person carries the girdle aloft from house to house while repeating certain prayers.
    Likewise, even at the present day, children wear crosses made of cardboard cut in the shape of a cross and covered with different coloured ribbons especially green,
