  1. In this part of the country fairs are held in the towns. They are held once a month in the street. This is for the good of the public as the men can go in and have a drink when they feel like it if the shops are convenient to them.
    Sometimes the selling takes place on the farms and the bargains take place in the houses. There are a lot of new fairs organised in Strokestown. Before now there were only four fairs in the years - May, June, October and November.
    A fair was held in Ballinafad in olden times, it was discontinued for a while but is now held in Strokestown.
