  1. There are no forges in our parish now, but in the time of Queen Elizabeth there was a forge about two miles from our village. Cooper was the man's name who owned it, and he kept another man to help him. He was the seventh generation of blacksmiths and he had the blacksmith's curse.
    He was a very nice man and agreed with all his neighbours and the never used his curse on everybody. There was a man named River na Glengarna and he governed all Connaught. He used to go to Dublin very often on horseback as there were no motors.
    The country was lawless and everybody carried a sword
