  1. The Potato Crop.
    There are about two acres of land under potatoes on our farm each year.
    My father prepares the ground. There is manure put on the ground before it is ploughed and then they make the ridges, The potatoes are sown in ridges and sometimes in drills. First the farmer ploughs the land and then they make the ridges. Wooden plough were used long ago but none of these are to be seen nowadays. Spades are not made locally but handles for them are made. This is the way the farmer prepared the ground for sowing the potatoes. First he put manure on the land. Then he ploughs it and makes ridges. He bores holes in the ridges and put a slit in each hole. |then he covers them with
