Most of the birds lay about four or five eggs and the hen sits on them for about three weeks until the young birds come out. If a person went near or handled the eggs, the bird would not come back to them.
The old people judge the weather by how the birds behave. They say if swallow flies low it is the sign of bad weather and if they fly high that will be good weather and also that if the crows rest on the land it is a sign of rain.
There are plenty of old stories connecting the birds with Our Lord and the saints. Among them is the story about the robin. Whe n Our Lord was dying on the cross there was a robin close by and she started pulling a thorn out of his head. A drop of blood fell on her(continues on next page)- Collector
