  1. The custom in the olden days was that the man that was about to marry would send another man to the girl's house to ask her parents if they would make a match between their daughter and him. If they consented she would have to marry whether she liked it or not. They appointed a day to meet in town. When they met they went into a room and got refreshments for themselves and they finished he match and arranged the day for the marriage.
    People say Saturday is an unlucky day for marriage and they always like to put some old garment of a married woman on the bride.
