    to thirty years ago in this part of the country.
    The names of the various coins are,
    halfpenny = make
    penny = wing
    three penny piece = kid's eye
    sixpenny bit = tanner or a goat's eye
    shilling = bob.
    Pound = quid.
    The fourpenny piece the five shilling and four shilling piece, the sovereign and half sovereign have all gone out of use.

  2. There were not many shops in olden times. People had to go to the nearest town to make purchases. Buying and selling was carried out after Mass and it is still practised. The articles that were sold are groceries such as loaves and biscuits. This is still practised. Money was not always given for goods, labour was given instead
