  1. Towards the middle of the last century one of the National Schools in Connaught was built at Loughglynn mainly through the efforts of Mr. Strickland a land agent of English descent and a Catholic who administered his Irish estate for Lord Dillon. He was the first Manager of the school and he sanctioned the appointment of Miss Duffy as the first Principal Teacher in the Girls' school with her sister as assistant. He had a residence repaired for them in which former teachers lived, and which was just beside the school.
