  1. The Irish people regard certain days of the year as lucky and unlucky days. It is believed that a crop sown on a certain day will grow much better than on any other day. If oats or potatoes are sown on Good Friday they will surely succeed and on that account people try and sow all they can on that day. May day is supposed to bring bad luck to any-one who sells a cow on that day. On St John's night it is lucky to bring a lighted sod of turf from the bonfire and throw it into one of your own fields. It is unlucky to get married on a Saturday because an old verse says "Monday for wealth, Tuesday for wealth and Wednesday the best day of all. Thursday for losses Friday for
