  1. In former years the people of this district spent most of their time in making useful articles by hand. There one lived a man in Carrowbehy who is now dead, known as John Hard?. This man made his living on weaving blankets for the people of the surrounding district. He made the blankets by means of a loom which was used for weaving cloth. Some of those blankets are still to be seen in houses in the district.
    There also lived a man in the village of Derry, who is dead, known as Tommy Healy. He carried on a notable craft of making straw saddles and mats for donkeys. He also made what was known as "párdógs" which were used for drawing manure to the field on the back of a donkey
