    "Farewell to Boyle, to lakes and all,
    That span my native town,
    Each crystal rill and tall fair hill
    That looks serenely down;
    That school-house o'er the river.
    The green islands and the mill,
    And your pleasant cot, Frank Higgins,
    'Tis plain, I see it still,
    The cascades roar beside the town
    Where trout and salmon play.
    And every thrush upon the bush
    Carols its merry lay,
    No more I'll roam the flowery banks
    Or bind-nest in the dell,
    Or pluck the shamrock fresh and green
    That bloom round Patrick's well,"

    I wandered by thy shore,
    To watch the boatmen set a sail
    And to hear the waters roar.
