    Many years ago there lived in the townland of Crosna, Boyle, a family named French who were of the Protestant Religion.

    pointed it at the prest and said "If you don't prove to me that my son has gone to hell I will kill you". The priest said nothing but took out a prayer book and began to read. He read for several hours, and at length a dull rattling of chains was heard underground. According as the priest read the noise grew louder and louder until at last it was like thunder and almost unbearable. But still the priest read. Suddenly, with a loud crash the floor-boards burst oopen and there stood the son. His hands and feet were tied with chains, and he was a mass of flame. The father immediately fainted and the priest had to for hours and hours again to get the son down to hell. The next morning the room was the same as ever without anything damaged.
    The father died from fright a few weeks later, but before his death he became a Catholic.
