    eggs with white spots on them.
    Boys are sometimes told that if they rob a swallow's nest or if they kill a swallow that the cows will milk blood. This happens because insects bite the cattle but if the swallows were left alone they would eat those harmful insects.
    Weather can also be judged by the swallows. If the swallows are flying high it is the sign of fine weather but if they are flying low it is the sign of wet weather.
    The cuckoo is a very nice bird, it has red feet, and it lays its eggs in a ditch - lark's nest because the lark always follows the cuckoo until she has the egg laid. Then the lark hatches it with her own and when the young cuckoo is reared it follows the older ones back on their long flight to the warmer
