    I then got a straight stick another hazel about three eights of an inch in diameter and two feet in length and pointed it at one end. I then put a "V" shaped cut in the other end. This was the arrow (see fig 2)
    When I put the "v" end of the arrow on the cord, pulled it and also the cord, at the same time holding the timber of the bow at the middle in the other hand, and released the cord suddenly, the arrow was driven a long distance and in any direction I wished
