  1. About two and half miles outside Shanahoe are the ruins of Gurtnaclay castle. People by the name of Fitzpatrick ancestors of the late Lord Granstown lived in it. He had a row with the English and they came and blew up the castle. During the fighting a servant of the castle jumped from a window he fell on some stone steps and was killed instantly. The mark of his knees are supposed to be seen. The castle is still there but it is falling into decay.
