  1. The commonest food in olden times and up to about 40 yrs. ago was oaten meal porridge and new milk or buttermilk. This was usually the food for breakfast. Potatoes were used largely at other meals. Meat was not eaten every day. Bacon was the usual kind. Tea was first used in the district about 90 yrs. ago.
    People often worked for a few hours in the morning without taking any food.
