    The spades are now being made in factories. The head of the spade is made of iron and the handle is made of wood. These spades are shaped like this [drawing of a spade].
    There were also spades made by blacksmiths but they are not being used much now. These spades were called facks and when digging you could only dig with the right foot for they were shaped like this. [Drawing of a fack.]
    The space for the handle in this spade was made wide so that a wedge could be driven in to keep the handle tight.
