    A great famine occurred in Ireland in the year 1846. It was caused by a blight which came on the potato crop. This crop was the chief support of the people they were then reduced to starvation because of its failure.
    The British Government instead of helping the people took the corn crop out of the country. Thousands of people died of starvation and many of them were buried together in the same grave. Many people left Ireland and went to America because there was no food for them in the country.
