  1. About 20 years ago Mr Mercier was coming from Johnstown to Durrow at about 10 p.m. A man from [Irishtown?] was driving him in a horse and trap.
When they came to this Glosh a little stream running across the road they saw a cat. Both were suspicious because it was a very unusual thing to see a cat at that hour of the night. However they passed on undisturbed. When they got to Durrow Mr. Mercier gave the man some whiskey.
He was almost drunk when he came to the Glosh and so he was not a bit surprised when he saw the cat in the same place.
I'll soon see whether you are a cat or not said this man. With that he lifted the whip and hit the cat. The cat jumped up on the wall and jumped back in the form of a woman.
